The two big weapons for the reunification of Cyprus are NATO and natural gas, Averof Neophytou said
The assessment that in order to achieve the fulfillment of our national goals for the reunification of Cyprus, we must put the two big weapons on the table, namely NATO and natural gas, DISY President and candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Averof Neophytou said tonight at a regional political rally held in Aradippou.[/B]
He added that "today absent from the meeting is a citizen of Aradippou who honoured his place and his historical party with his ethos and selflessness, Tasos Mitsopoulos".
Securing this present and the future of our country, he said, "is the crucial decision we are called upon to make in these elections, a decision that will determine whether our country will successfully overcome the challenges it faces, whether we will continue our growth momentum, with security and stability, with hope and perspective. This is what the next leadership must ensure."
In his speech, Averof Neophytou also referred to what many people say that "wherever you lift a stone, I am underneath. For me, not only stones were lifted but also boulders," he said and noted that "nowhere they found me because nowhere I am not. If anyone had me in hand, I would not have been before the people", he said and added that "with the stones that I accepted, as did Glafkos Clerides and Nicos Anastasiades, we built bridges and our political proposal for tomorrow and the reunification of our country".
After saying that he has never been afraid of getting wrinkled, he apologized "for mistakes and omissions, even for mistakes and omissions of the system, even if they were not my responsibility. As President of the largest and the ruling party, I learned to take my historical responsibilities."
Elsewhere in his speech, the DISY President said that "renewal does not come from those who copy visions and programs, nor do we solve problems by making people smile but at the same time create fake accounts to beat our political opponents. Credibility does not lie with those who participated in a government for nine years and then align themselves with those who insulted and defamed us."
Referring to the economy of Cyprus, Neophytou said "he wants to ensure that the country will maintain its strong economy in this coming storm. We need to lead the country through the minefield to a safe destination that will preserve Cypriot Hellenism and that will realize the Cyprus of tomorrow."
[/P]Elsewhere in his speech, Mr. Neophytou referred to the great social demand of young people for affordable rent and said that he had sought solutions with the government and the administration of CUTC. Today, he said, "CUTC, with the support of the state, responded and raised the rent allowance to 2.500 euros for students to have affordable housing and rent for the next year," he said and noted that "there is also cooperation with the hotel industry that has a social responsibility to offer to society by providing more beds at the lowest price."
On the issue of migration, he said that "Cyprus has far exceeded its accommodation capacity, while at the same time citizens have the right to safety in their neighbourhoods and homes," referring to his visit to Congo to prepare "a bilateral agreement to repatriate irregular migrants to their countries. In the coming weeks, an agreement will be signed with Congo for the repatriation of irregular migrants, and the same will be done with other countries," he said, expressing confidence that "by 2025, irregular migrants will be repatriated to their countries."
On the Cyprus issue, Averof Neophytou replied to some of his close associates who advise him to stop dealing with our national issue, because they say it does not sell, it has a cost and it will be damaging. "I would rather lose some of my political capital than lose our country," he said, adding that he is proposing "another way to break the deadlock because Tayyip Erdogan is dangerous.
He also said that we are living threats and we have to convince the international community that we care about the solution, because" as he explained "and in 2002 Turkey threatened with casus belie and Glafkos Clerides returned from Copenhagen with Cyprus integrated in the united Europe".
Finally, Averof Neophytou said that "in order to succeed in fulfilling our national goals, I want to live in a reunited homeland because I propose to put on the table our two great weapons for security and energy, namely NATO and natural gas, our two great weapons for the reunification of our homeland".
It is noted that the meeting was attended by Averof Neophytou's wife Maria, the Mayor of Aradippou, Kati Clerides, Katerina Pantelidou, MPs George Karoulas, Prodromos Alabritis and Efthimios Diplaros and Katerina Vati, wife of the late Defence Minister Tasos Mitsopoulos, among others.
