The average amount of precipitation reached 156% of normal for January, that fell in free areas from January 1 to the morning of January 31, according to preliminary data released Monday by the Department of Meteorology.
According to the data, the average total rainfall from January 1 to the morning of January 31, 2022 stood at 159.4 mm, compared to 102.4 mm, which is the normal rainfall for the month of January.
In particular, the highest amount of rainfall during the same period occurred in Upper Panayia where 141.8 millimetres more rainfall fell, compared to the normal for the month of January, reaching a total of an impressive 294.9 millimetres, which is 193% of normal.
Also, a high percentage of rainfall compared to normal was recorded in January in Corno with 190% (166.4 mm), Athienou with 183% (102.0 mm) and Polis Chrysochou with 164% (160.1 mm).
In addition, the second highest amount of rainfall, apart from Pano Panagia, was recorded in Prodromos with 268.4 mm (139% of normal), in Cross of Psoka with 243.4 mm (146% of normal) and in Saitta with 222.7 mm (153% of normal).
In contrast, according to preliminary data from the Department of Meteorology, the lowest amount of rainfall during the period 1 to 31 January 2022 was recorded in Nicosia (Athalassa area) with 66.6 mm (139% of normal), in Frenaros with 81.4 mm (134% of normal) and in Xylotympou with 92.4 mm (156% of normal).
