"At the end of the Cypriot film we are the only ones who died" Turkish propaganda through TMT, writes a Cypriot writer based on a book

With entitled "At the end of the Cypriot film we are the only ones who died" columnist Serhat Injirli refers in his article today in Yeni Dusen to events of the period 1955-1974, as recorded in a book of narratives by one of the TMT commanders Ilter Kirmizi.

According to the GMP, Injirli says the book was written, prepared and compiled by Guven Uludag, Koral Ozkoraltai and Osman Yigiz Kirmizi under the title "A secret man: Ilter Kirmizi TMT documents published for the first time, the hidden history of the 1955-1974 period".

Commenting on the book, which he is reading, the TC columnist says that the TMT fighters were not worried that there should not have been a single Cypriot left in this "country". On the contrary, he adds, their oath was to protect the existence of the community. "They could not protect it. Interestingly, some armed units organised in Nicosia did not even want a Turkish commander in charge. Then a person of 'Cypriot origin' was appointed and they were happy. Right now, the president, the prime minister and the cabinet are ruled by a single person, let alone commanders from Turkey, and they are very comfortable and direct."

Injirli goes on to refer to many irregularities, corruption or personalisation that existed during the TMT period and still continue. "For example, during the period when there were restrictions, prohibitions and it was impossible to buy anything from abroad, some privileged people could buy what they wanted from the Greek Cypriot side by giving some offers, even if limited, to acquaintances, friends, armed men."

Referring to the role of the UN forces as well as the British forces, Injirli says that "it is a despicable lie that we are taught that 'the Peacekeeping Force or the British soldiers who served in Cyprus always worked against us, they did not protect us'. However, this book documents that dozens of UN Peacekeeping Force soldiers played a very important role, either voluntarily or professionally, in the clandestine delivery of weapons and in responding to other urgent needs across the island. In fact, the first and only real medal in the history of the TMT was awarded to one of these soldiers."

In relation to TMT activities and facts that have been falsified, Injirli speaks of propaganda, i.e. lies that were prevalent in the Turkish Cypriot community. "And it is still so. Nothing has changed. The bombing of the Bayraktar mosque was done to draw Turkey to the island, we had learned this before, I think it was documented in this book. I think it is also documented in this book that Omorphita was abandoned for the same purpose and that many people died in vain. What a shame, we surrendered a settlement of 5 thousand people to 20 raiders under the command of Samson Why? So that the Motherland would come and save us!"

"Who did the massacre in the bathroom?"

Regarding the case of the bathroom massacre at Christmas 1963, Sherhat Injrili says that the answer to the question 'who did it' does not exist in this book either. ' But it is now known for what purpose it was used after it was done. I think it is a bigger crime than killing to collect dead children and prepare a scene for propaganda purposes. And that's what they did. They took the dead children in their arms and put them in the bathtub with their mother and photographed them."

Ayhan Hikmet and Muzaffer Gurkan

Referring to the perpetrators of the murder of the two lawyers of Jumhuriyet newspaper editors, Ayhan Hikmet and Muzaffer Gurkan, Injirli says that there is no answer to this question either. "But we know very well why they were killed. It is documented. For the Republic of Cyprus not to continue. To destroy it. Sir, we did not destroy the Republic of Cyprus! No, we, or some of the influential people, made many attempts to destroy this Republic or to leave this Republic. Let no one tell me anymore, we were kicked out, we were thrown out."

One of the very important themes that is once again recorded in this book, he continues, or that we learned clearly once again, is that many evils are mutual.

"In other words, the Turkish side was not innocent. I think that is a bitter truth. And nationalism, fascism is the only reason for the destruction of this country. Our people fought to bring Turkey to the island, the planes came to Kokkina and Lefkoniko, bombed one, scared the other and left. However, it was not our fascists who brought Turkey to the island, but, interestingly, it was the Greek fascists. The coup of July 15 by these mentally retarded people, who put oil and honey on Turkey's bread, came once and never left again."

From the book, he continues, it also follows that the Turkish side was the first to start the inter-communal conflicts. "We went and became policemen for the British and thought it was a great skill to hurt the EOKA fighters in every way with the 'British uniform'. They set a 'target' and fought, we were the servants of the British until others set a target. We were collaborators."

The first massacre also belonged to the TCs, he continues, citing the example of an incident of murder in Famagusta. "We shot, if I'm not mistaken, we killed three people then 14 Turks disappeared from the streets. In the name of Turkish and Greek nationalism, for the interests of the British and America, for the sake of the so-called 'just cause', we did it ourselves, we found it ourselves, and if the current situation is the result, we have lost for good! We have been defeated in every respect! Because the Turkish Cypriot community, which TMT swore to protect and keep alive, no longer exists!"

And even more poignant, he concludes, "if we look at all those involved in the Cypriot apocalypse one by one, at the end of the film only the Turkish Cypriot community died."
