A young man, armed with a crossbow, who was arrested when he attempted to break into Windsor Castle, has been taken into custody after undergoing a psychiatric examination, police said.

The 19-year-old, from Southampton, southern England, was arrested minutes after he walked into the Castle estate where Queen Elizabeth was staying to spend Christmas in the company of Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla. He did not have time to enter a building, according to authorities.
"The man was arrested and underwent a psychiatric examination. He is being held under the Mental Health Act and remains under medical supervision," police said."
The 19-year-old used a rope ladder to climb a metal fence in the tower. A crossbow was found in his possession.
According to the Daily Mirror, security cameras captured the suspect. "The security agents could not believe their eyes," a security source told the newspaper.
In light of this episode, a review of security procedures at the Queen's residences is planned.
Crossbows are considered deadly weapons in Britain, but no special permission is needed to buy or possess them.
This is not the first time someone has attempted to break into the Queen's residence. The most spectacular such attempt occurred in 1982, when 30-year-old Michael Fagan managed to get into her bedroom at Buckingham Palace while Elizabeth was in bed.
