Announcement by the Presidency of the Republic on the establishment and operation of the Anti-Corruption Authority
Following the adoption of the law on the protection of whistleblowers, at the end of January, another important step towards strengthening the anti-corruption framework was taken yesterday with the adoption of the law on the establishment and operation of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority.
The Government welcomes the passage of the bill by the House of Representatives and notes that efforts to combat corruption at every level must and will be sustained.
Both the passage of the Public Interest Witness Protection Bill and the Bill on the establishment and operation of the Anti-Corruption Authority constitute important reforms which will contribute decisively to tackling corruption and promoting transparency and accountability, entrenching the rule of law in our country.
The President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Anastasiades expresses his thanks to the political leadership, the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs and its Chairman, who, especially after the recent meeting at the Presidential Palace, with consensus and creative spirit, made use of the recommendations submitted.
In the same spirit, the Government expects that the Parliament will proceed in the immediate future with the passage of the critical bills concerning the remaining reforms related to the modernization of the state, such as, for example, the reform of local government.
