The Ministry of Health announces that today, 29 December 2021:


  • 5 people died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 635.
  • 174 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 84 are in serious condition. A proportion of 82.76% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 15 postCOVID patients who ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in ICU.
  • A total of 118,894 tests have been performed to detect the disease by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 3002 (positivity rate: 2.52%) new cases of COVID-19 were detected by the molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 157,928.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The 5 persons who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are.

Male, 87 years old, who died on 29 December at Paphos General Hospital.

Female, 77 years old, who died on 29 December at Limassol General Hospital.

Male, aged 81 years, who died on 29 December at Nicosia General Hospital.

Female, aged 94 years, who died on 29 December at home.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 635, of which:


  • 404 men (63.6%), and
  • 231 women (36.4%).

The average age of those dying from the disease is 76 years.

B. Inpatients:

In total, 174 patients

with COVID-19 are hospitalized, of whom 84 are in serious condition or on NSAIDs.

Of the 84 patients in serious condition, 24 are intubated, 9 are in an Intensive Care Unit off ventilator and 51 in an Intensive Care Unit.

Γ. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 118,894 diagnoses performed, 13,293 were performed by the molecular method (PCR) and 105,601 by the antigen rapid test method, 3002 cases of COVID-19 were detected, resulting in the following:[/p

  • 301 cases from 1,682 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
  • 106 cases out of 6,411 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 507 cases out of 4,739 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 35 cases out of 445 samples taken by the Microbiology Laboratories of General Hospitals.
  • 1379 cases from 74,378 samples tested by the antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test) in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 674 cases from 31,223 specimens tested with the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health's (antigen rapid test) program.

The following test was performed without detecting a case:


  • 0 cases from 16 samples obtained under the Personal Physician referral and special group screening program through the Public Health Clinics.
