At the same time, in statements made on the sidelines of the memorial service of EOKA hero Petrakis Gialouloulrou at the Church of Panagia Faneromeni in Nicosia, Ms Demetriou said that the presidential elections should not derail the effort to implement the reforms that the country needs.

"We have made it clear that I will not have an executive role, without this meaning that I will not fully support the recommendation and decision of the political area to which I belong, namely the selection of Mr. Averof Neophytou for the upcoming presidential elections," she said.

At the same time, she assured that "I know very well how to protect and will protect my institutional status and role and I will do so."

Asked if there is a specific protocol that she will follow, Demetriou said that from the first moment she took office, "I make sure every day to safeguard my institution, my status, and that is what I do."

"And I assure you that until the last day I am in this position, and I am absolutely committed to this position, that is what I will do," she added.

Asked to comment on posts on social media that there was age and racial bias against her, Ms Demetriou said "we are all being judged and let's keep the result."

"We have many things to do for the good of this country, for the future of this country especially the House of Representatives has very important work to do and I think let's stick to that and everyone has the right to position themselves as they wish," she added.

Asked if the work of Parliament will be more difficult as we approach the presidential elections at a time when much is at stake such as the Recovery and Resilience Plan, Ms Demetriou expressed the view that the House works collectively and can reconcile any disagreements.

"I appreciate, let me say," she continued, "because from the very beginning we have been working collectively in the House of Representatives, we can reconcile any disagreements and find the fertile ground so that we can get results and get results for all the things that need to be done, precisely because they are linked to the Recovery and Resilience Plan that we will move forward with all these necessary reforms that our citizens need, that our country needs to move forward even further."

He estimated that the election period will have an impact, to stress, however, that "it is up to us to ensure that we cannot be derailed by all these important steps that need to be taken, for the good of the citizens for the good of Cyprus."
