289-gram strawberry in Israel enters the Guinness Book of World Records Israeli farmer Chahi Ariel grew the world's heaviest strawberry
Israeli farmer Chahi Ariel[/B] grew the world's heaviest strawberry, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.[/B]
Weighing 289 grams, the strawberry is five times the average weight of a regular strawberry of the local Ilan variety, said Nir Dai, a researcher at Israel's Volcanic Institute, where the strain was grown.
The strawberry is 18 centimeters long and 34 centimeters in circumference, the online Guinness Book of World Records said. Ariel was hoping to earn a place in the record book when he saw how much the fruit he had grown on his family's farm last year had grown.
He was waiting for confirmation that it was a record while keeping the huge strawberry in the freezer as proof. When we heard it, it was a fantastic feeling. I got in the car, laughing and singing, `Ariel described, while proudly displaying his certificate. We have been waiting for this for a long time.
The previous record was set by a Japanese farmer who discovered a strawberry weighing 250 grams in his 2015 crop.
