The frauds and abuses in the FTA must be stamped out, says the President of the Cyprus Patients Association speaking to the Cyprus Times - What he said about what happened at the Audit Committee and the confrontation with Zacharias Koulias

The President of the Cyprus Patients Association, Marios Kouloumas, was once again vehement in his statements when asked to respond to the Cyprus Times on the events that took place yesterday during the debate in the Parliamentary Control Committee on medicines and abuses in the GESY.

As Kouloumas stresses, "there is fraud and abuses in the GESY, but under no circumstances should we zero in on everything at a time when the health plan was implemented in the time of a pandemic and it seems to be working and has helped a lot."

At the same time, he said that patients ask and demand respect from the parliament so that they can express themselves and place themselves democratically in the sessions.

Regarding the argument he had with Zacharias Koulias, Kouloumas said that, what he wanted was to place himself and he was not given the floor at the beginning.

"On the other hand, we kept having Mr Koulias mentioning that there were members of the SAE at the session and they were recording what we were saying, and we wondered if we who were there were impostors," he said."

I wonder why he also called the police when I left the session on my own and came back afterwards," Mr Koulias said.

Abuses and cheap drugs...

Asked to list the most serious problems of patients, he stressed that these are, abuses that are made in individual cases and must be stamped out.

"Patients face serious problems in the quality of care they receive, as well as the access they have to hospitals and doctors."

At the same time, he noted that patients are seeking equality and access to all medicines."

"As the Auditor General said yesterday, medicines are overpriced, as if he wants to go back to where we only gave people cheap ones. All drugs should be in the GDS and patients should get them not just the cheap ones because some people envision going back to the old system," he concluded.
