The necessity for ancient monuments to belong under the roof of a single body of culture, the Deputy Ministry of Culture, expressed the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Prodromos Prodromou, on the occasion of the informal meeting of EU Culture Ministers in France, on 7 and 8 March.

It is not possible, he said, for Culture Ministers to plan joint actions for ancient monuments, heritage, antiquities and in Nicosia this is a matter of Transport and Works.

"I am glad that a week from today the Parliament will give a solution to this piecemeal approach and the displacement of antiquities in Transport, with a logic that goes back to the colonial era," he said.

Antiquities must find a separate common home, together with the entire cultural heritage, in a Deputy Ministry of Culture, under the supervision of the Presidency of the Republic, he said.

Antiquities must find a separate common home, together with the entire cultural heritage, in a Deputy Ministry of Culture, under the supervision of the Presidency of the Republic, he said.

"I hope and expect that the Parliament will approve this step forward, both for our cultural heritage and for culture in general," he concluded.

The main topic of the Informal Meeting of Culture Ministers was cultural heritage, plans for the management, protection and promotion of common cultural heritage, the establishment of a cultural "label" of Europe and the more effective protection of cultural heritage against looting, theft and fugitive abroad of antiquities and other cultural goods, as well as the policy of a single digitisation of heritage and the creation of a common European repository, he told reporters.

He noted that during the session, he testified to the very good work being done in Cyprus in the field of digitisation, in cooperation with both the Unesco Chair of the CUT and Europeana.
