The all-night battle that was fought to keep the 16-year-old girl hospitalized with coronavirus at Papanikolaou Hospital alive was described by Nikos Kapravelos, Director of the hospital's 2nd ICU, warning that "it is important that every symptom should now be taken seriously, even if the antigen test is negative," as in the case of the 16-year-old.

"We have had a very difficult year in intensive care and we are still going through it. A lot of certainties were disproved. We did not expect at the end of 2021 to be in this emergency situation, the pressure on the health system is great... Our hospital's intensive care units are full," Kapravelos told SKY, and continued."

"We struggled all night to save a 16-year-old child, a little girl who came to us with coronavirus and was intubated in a very bad condition. She came from home, unfortunately three tests antigenic came out negative the fellow doctors unfortunately underestimated the situation."

Unfortunately the child was not vaccinated

"We should, if there are symptoms be concerned and refer to the doctors," the doctor pointed out.

The girl, he stressed, was on the verge of cardiac arrest with a terrifyingly large hypoxia. "The fight started in the emergency department, we struggled all night to get her on balance, fortunately she responded to the positive pressures and the ventilators we used, she is already in a better condition, but we were surprised, we were afraid it was Omicron, it's Delta."

"They delayed bringing the girl to the hospital because with the antigen tests they thought it was a common cold. Hypoxygenemias in a 16 year old child did not show a picture so negative, when of course it came to 'close to five' luckily we got there in time... So she needs a lot of attention."

"She is in better condition, she reacted to the treatment. When a 16-year-old child is in danger, the whole country is in danger. Unfortunately, the child was not vaccinated."
