The girl simply asked the machine to give her a "challenge" to pass the time.
"No, Alexa, don't!" cried the terrified mother when she heard the Amazon digital assistant suggest her daughter play electric shock games.
The 10-year-old girl simply asked the machine to give her a "challenge" to pass the time.
"Put a charger in the socket halfway up and then touch a coin to the exposed teeth of the plug," was Alexa's suggestion.
The girl's mother, Kristin Livdal, was stunned but managed to intervene. She did, however, state on Twitter that her daughter "is too smart to do something like that."

According to the BBC, Amazon's digital assistant had found the so-called "coin challenge" online, which has been circulating for a year on TikTok and other social media.
The dangerous game has even alarmed authorities because of the risk of electrocution. "You can lose fingers, palms, hands," Yorkshire fire service spokesman Michael Clasker told The Press in Yorkshire last year.

Amazon was informed of the incident by the BBC and assured that it has updated its Alexa software to not suggest similar activities in the future.
"Consumer trust is at the heart of everything we do and Alexa is designed to provide accurate, relevant and useful information to our customers," the company said."
"Once we were made aware of the error we took immediate action to correct it."
