One man died and another eight were injured, five of them very seriously, when a car plunged at speed into the exterior of a restaurant in Washington, D.C.
Firefighters and police officers were rushed at 12:15 p.m. to the Parthenon Greek restaurant in the Chevy Chase neighborhood, where a silver SUV went off the road and crashed into the restaurant's patio.

Five of the injured taken to area hospitals are in critical condition, while one woman reportedly died, according to the Washington Post.
Three other people were given first aid at the scene and did not need to be admitted for hospitalization, according to a spokesman for the Washington Fire Department.
The driver of the SUV was an elderly man who appeared to have lost control of the car or experienced a medical problem, a Metropolitan Police Department spokesman said.
Police believe it was a traffic accident, and so far it remains unclear whether the driver was injured.
