Three arrests have been made.
The security of Belgium's Justice Minister Vincent van Kiekernborn has been beefed up after the arrest, in the Netherlands, of three people linked to a "serious threat" against the Belgian government official.
According to the Flemish-language newspaper Het Laatste Niews, firearms were found inside a car with Dutch license plates which was spotted outside the minister's home in the suburb of Courtré.
Belgium's federal prosecutor's office did not confirm this information, but referred to a "serious threat". In its statement it clarified that three people were arrested on Friday night into Saturday in the Netherlands and their extradition to Belgium has been requested.
Prosecutors said they were informed last week of a "possible" threat against Kickerborn and a preliminary investigation found that "they should have taken it seriously".
The minister will not participate in certain scheduled activities in the "coming days."
Prosecutors gave no further details about the ongoing investigation.[/B]
