"AKEL raises social shield against precision" Mobilisations in all cities on Saturday, 26 February Demanding immediate implementation measures to protect society
Mobilisations in all cities will take place on Saturday, 26 February, AKEL demanding immediate implementation measures to protect consumers.
The mobilisation in Nicosia will take place at 15.30 at noon at the opening of Ledra Street in the capital.
In a written statement, AKEL P.G. member Haris Polykarpou says that "accuracy is nibbling away at the living standards of Cypriots. Increases have snowballed, from food to electricity, fuel and bank charges. At the same time, wages, pensions and social benefits are stuck."
He stresses that the government and the Democratic Rally are indifferent, while noting that "they have no idea what the majority of society is going through."
"They do not want to clash with big private interests, big business and obscenity."
"They do not want to clash with big private interests, big business and obscenity. And above all, in the face of the cry of anguish of society and small and medium-sized enterprises, they insist that they have nothing to announce," Polycarpou stresses.
According to AKEL, with the mobilisations it is demanding:
-Reduction of VAT to 9% on electricity
-End of double taxation on fuel
-Reduction of VAT and imposition of a cap on essentials
-Full restoration of ATA and extension to all workers
-Adjustment of social benefits to reflect the increased cost of living
-Reopening of the silos of the Grains Commission to create strategic stocks
-Creation of a price watchdog website for essentials to ensure transparency and inform consumers
-Inclusion of more consumers in the reduced electricity tariff through the broadening of the criteria of AHK
-Revision of the criteria and inclusion of more citizens in the extraordinary support allowance for residents of mountainous and semi-mountainous areas
-Expansion of the services provided in the basic account (LBBX) by banks and its extension to micro enterprises
