At yesterday's meeting of the AKEL Central Committee, the party's finding that Cyprus needs a progressive change was unanimously reaffirmed, the party's General Secretary says.
In a written statement, Stefanos Stefanou stresses that "first of all, it needs to get rid of the government of Synagerimos, which in the years of its rule has led Cyprus to the bottom and has caused too many deadlocks on all the key issues that determine the course of the country and the people".

He underlines that "in order to achieve progressive change, the Central Committee of AKEL unanimously reaffirmed the position that the Party will continue more intensively and more concretely the effort to achieve cooperation with the opposition parties. We will therefore proceed more intensively in the coming period to develop a dialogue with these parties which, like AKEL, realise that Cyprus needs change."
"At the same time we decided to go down to the party base to discuss with the people of the party, with the New Forces and the friends of the party to have their point of view, their approaches in relation to this effort that we will make in view of the February 2023 presidential elections," he concludes.
