AKEL on track for presidential elections The party's Central Committee is meeting
AKEL is entering the... deep end as far as the scene ahead of the presidential elections is concerned.
The party's Central Committee is meeting against the backdrop of the 2023 election, which will deal with the political framework within which the party will move.
The meeting of the Central Committee, which is scheduled to take place at 09:30 in the morning at the PEO Amphitheatre in Nicosia, will discuss cooperation with other political forces and define the priorities of the Left Party.[/B]
As repeatedly stated by both AKEL executives and Stefanos Stefanou, the targeting is none other than the selection of a candidate who will have the guarantees of success with political change at stake.
The debate is not expected to focus on names of potential candidates, although it is possible that some will be heard, but members of AKEL's senior leadership will have the opportunity to develop thoughts and concerns, which will also help the AKEL leadership team to indirectly listen to the pulse of the party's middle and senior members.
After the Central Committee, the floor will again be put to the Political Bureau, which will discuss the issue.
The AKEL Political Bureau will then address the party's base, either with a proposal with one or more named candidates, or leave it to the members themselves to position themselves openly.
