[Cyprus Times] AKEL meeting with the Cyprus Hunting and Wildlife Conservation Federation

An AKEL delegation led by the General Secretary of the C.E. Stefanos Stefanou had a meeting today with a delegation of the Cyprus Hunting and Wildlife Conservation Federation led by its President Mr.

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL stated that AKEL seeks continuous contact with the Hunting Federation to discuss issues related to hunting. The General Secretary of AKEL informed the Hunting Federation that the Party has proceeded to set up an Ad-Hoc Committee on Hunting, for more specific and in-depth study of the issues.

The President of the Federation Mr. Pecris thanked AKEL for the meeting as well as for the proposal by Party MP Nikos Kettirou[/B] for the re-establishment of the Poaching Suppression Unit[/B] recently discussed in the Parliament.

Among the issues discussed is the necessity for the training of hunters and especially young hunters so as to give more importance to safety and protection from accidents and for cultivating more sensitivities for protection of the environment and for better acquaintance with the flora and fauna of the country.

The meeting also discussed legislative initiatives concerning hunters and hunting that could be brought before the House of Representatives.
