A woman in Aigio was a victim of domestic violence by her 53-year-old husband, who attacked her with a broken glass and threatened to kill her. The woman bears wounds to her face and jaw from the blows.
According to information from filodimos.gr, the frightened woman locked herself in the toilet of their house in Messinezi, in order to escape from her husband's hands and called a friend asking for help. She then called the police and reported the incident.
Police officers immediately rushed to the house where they found the man kicking the bathroom door where his wife had locked herself inside.
Officers arrested him and took him to the police station on charges of violating the Domestic Violence Act, while the woman was initially taken to the hospital accompanied by officers to receive first aid as she sustained injuries to her face and jaw from broken glass. She then filed a complaint against her husband.
Police sources said that in her statement she revealed that for years the man had been beating and abusing her, but she did not proceed with a complaint because she feared for her and her child's life.
