A letter will be sent to the responsible Ministry asking for an explanation
The discussion of the issue of the understaffing of the Forestry Department by the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture was postponed since the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment did not attend the Committee.
DIKO MP Christos Orphanides said that he asked for the meeting to be adjourned as they consider this behaviour of the Ministry to be an insult to the Agriculture Committee.
He added that a letter will be sent to the responsible Ministry asking for an explanation and they will look into the matter as soon as possible.
At the same time, Mr. Orphanides said that it was reported to the Agriculture Committee that the Cyprus Sports Organisation has requested the space where the Forestry College is housed to use it for a reason they do not know.
He expressed the view that this cannot be done and it was incumbent on the CAA to pick up the phone, talk to the Forestry Department and proceed with a consultation.
He added that they would seek an explanation on the matter from the CAA and would also place the matter before the Agriculture Committee in the future.
