Last week the first application of a Turkish Cypriot producer to Bureau Veritas for the production of steel plums And other producers are preparing to apply
Last week the first application was submitted by a Turkish Cypriot company to Bureau Veritas in the framework of efforts to export steel plums from the occupied territories to the European market, said "adviser" to the so-called prime minister and head of the steering committee on haloumi issues, Hussein Amziyaoglu.
According to the GMP, Amziyaoglu said the process is working as planned and that other production companies are also preparing to apply.
Noting that the demands of the Greek Cypriot side to change the milk quotas, the breed of animals, the form of haloumi and its weight are being followed by the press, Amziyaoglu said that it is important that the changes concerning the vesting be brought to a result through a common agreement.
He said that as mentioned in the regulation implementing the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), a working group should be set up in which all partners on both sides should take part under the coordination of the European Commission and the issues should be discussed in this platform.
It was decided, he continued, to appoint an independent committee on behalf of the Commission to carry out the health checks, noting that despite this decision, no appointment was made and adding that it was necessary to do so in order for the process to continue.
According to Mr. Amziyaoglu, the Turkish Cypriot side is carrying out the necessary "legal" and technical work towards an action plan on halloumi through a committee set up with the participation of the "veterinary department", the "milk industrial council" and the "animal husbandry department" under the coordination of the "EU coordination centre".
He argued that the cooperation of all their "organisations", the chamber of commerce, the industrial "chamber" and especially the "presidency" is also of great importance for the progress of the haloumi process.
