Lawyers from Adrianople appeal to the ECHR against Greece over migrants "Let them come and see the problem on the spot. Let them see the problem that the migrants are experiencing."
The Committee for Refugee Rights of the Adrianople Bar Association is taking Greece to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) over the migrants frozen to death in Evros. According to what the Turkish side claims, the number of migrants who died of frostbite after being pushed back by Greek forces at the border reached 19.
The head of the Commission, Anil Yasagor, said that there have been several appeals to the ECHR regarding refugees pushed back since 2020, but none of them have been resolved. "We will try to trace the relatives of the deceased for now. If we are able to reach 10 people who we believe are alive, applications will be made for them of course. Applications for the deceased can only be made if their relatives can be contacted. If we can reach them, an application can be made," he said."
The President of the Bar Association, Tacetin Sivrikaya said they will write letters to many representatives, including the European Council, the EU and the UN. "I would like to write a letter to the President of the Thessaloniki Bar Association, the President of the Athens Bar Association, and call on them to take action to resolve this issue. I will also write letters to the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dounia Miyatovic, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants Felipe Gonzales Morales, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ilva Johansson to invite them to Turkey, especially to Adrianople. Let them come and see the problem on the ground. Let them see the problem experienced by the migrants," he said."
