Continuing the public consultation with the people, lawyer and candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Achilleas Demetriades presented on Wednesday in Paphos his vision for "a better Cyprus of tomorrow" and answered questions from the audience on issues of concern to society.
Economy, Cyprus issue, energy, culture, European issues, corruption, anarchy, education were among the issues raised by the participants of the event at the "Old Electric" Cultural Centre in the presence of the Mayors of Paphos and Pafos, according to an announcement.
In response to a related question, he said that the energy framework can assist the solution and become a catalyst in the effort to resolve the Cyprus problem and shield our EEZ. He reiterated his support for a solution of a bizonal bicommunal federation with political equality on the basis of UN resolutions.
The people, he said elsewhere in his presentation, deserve equality and equal opportunities on a merit basis, noting that without a programme and effort nothing can change.
In another question on the economy, he said that Cyprus' comparative advantage is the high level of services it offers, but that it is lagging behind due to the delay in the administration of justice.
"Cyprus can but above all must change", he concluded. In his introductory speech, Demetriades developed the three pillars of his positions - Honourable State, Cyprus 2035 and The Solution is in our interest - stressing, among other things, the importance of Europe's contribution to the effort to resolve the Cyprus problem and the need for a good economy in an executive state.
