The Health Minister sent a clear message that "GESY is a one-way street and its architecture is not changing".Health Minister to implement recommendations for solving problems with abuses at the centre Issues and recommendations discussed and moving forward Resignation of two KEBE members from the Board of Directors of the Health Insurance Agency

Before the Health Insurance Agency, Michael Hadjipantelas presented the Ministry of Health's plan and recommendations for the General Health System, with the problems that have seen the light of day in the previous period being put in the spotlight.

The recommendations put forward seem to cover a range of issues on which there has been public concern, and abuse is of course a high on the list.

In his statements after the OAS meeting, the Minister of Health sent a clear message that the GHS is a one-way street and its architecture is not changing.

"First of all, I would like to thank the OAS Board of Directors for the excellent cooperation we have had, and especially the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Thomas Antoniou. We had a very good meeting, where an update was given on the Ministry of Health's thoughts on the GHS. I mentioned to them clearly that the GHS is a one-way street. I mentioned to them that the Ministry of Health understands and we thank them that they have brought the General Health System to this point so that all people can enjoy this good that they have been asking for for several years. But at the same time, this young child who is almost two years old has several problems that we need to correct immediately," he said.

Focus on abuses

According to Mr. Hadjipandela, discussions on how to fix these problems have been going on for the past three to four months. "As I mentioned before, we were going to announce them last week, but unfortunately I came down with coronavirus. Today these recommendations and these decisions that will improve the abuses were discussed before the Board members, who are the members who have the responsibility to implement these recommendations. From what I have heard from all of the Board members, they have viewed these recommendations in a positive light and I believe they will implement them in a very short period of time to improve our system even more, and by that I mean that if we have improvements we will have savings and we will have more money for more treatments, for more medications, for the benefit of our patients."

The recommendations

The recommendations address all the problems that have seen the light of day in recent days. One recommendation concerns how to solve the issue with the opinion of the Attorney General, so it will solve a very big problem that we have. The second recommendation is about how to solve the problem with some doctors and nursing homes that are evading taxes. Other inputs relate to how to improve the way in which personal physicians operate and are paid, which is an issue that we have discussed several times with the OAI management team. We discussed it, reflected on it several times, and came up with a concrete way that will be implemented in the coming days. I also want to mention that on the basis of these improvements, the services that patients receive will also be improved, because on the basis of these recommendations, a timetable will be set where the on-call clinics will start operating, both for patients and for paediatricians.

"So we are not only talking about savings, we are also talking about improving the General Health System, and with this we want to give the message that the GHS is not collapsing but is strengthened and we will offer even better services to Cypriot citizens and Cypriot patients," the Minister concluded.

CEBE representatives resigned from the Board of Directors of the Health Insurance Organisation

Meanwhile, the two representatives of the CEBE resigned yesterday from the Board of Directors of the Health Insurance Organisation.

According to public statements by CEBE President Christodoulos Agastiniotis, the CEBE does not trust the directors of the Health Insurance Organisation. And he conveyed that KEBE representatives will return to the Board of Directors only if they leave their positions.
