A rich collection of exhibits at the renovated Larnaca Archaeological Museum reopened yesterday in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Minister Yiannis Karousos

The collection of exhibits at the fully renovated Archaeological Museum of Larnaca, which reopened yesterday in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Yiannis Karousos, is rich.

A joint written statement by the Municipality of Larnaca, the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company (LTAP) and the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said that the Minister was shown around by officials of the Department of Antiquities, the two fully renovated and upgraded halls, accompanied by the Mayor Andreas Vyra, members of parliament of the Larnaca and Famagusta districts, the Presidents of the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

It is added that on the lower floor of the Archaeological Museum there is a new room dedicated to the impressive sarcophagi. The exhibition is divided into sections that "tell" stories related to the daily life of the ancient inhabitants of Cyprus, their art and rituals, it adds.

According to the announcement, "Wing I traces a chronological path from 8000 BC to the 12th century BC with a wealth of exhibits enriched with new finds from recent excavations. Wing II is dedicated to the Iron Age and includes four rooms. The first room presents exhibits that narrate the dynamism of ancient Kition, while the second is dedicated to the sanctuaries of Mesaoria where life-size statues are on display. In the third room, material from the tombs of Kition is presented, giving information about the ancient society and in the fourth room the famous sarcophagi are exhibited."

The attendees, the announcement continues, expressed their satisfaction with the renovated rooms of the Museum with Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyra stating that the renovated Museum is a mirror of the rich history of Larnaca. "In order to promote the history of the city to the greatest possible extent, various actions are being carried out, including the consolidation of the archaeological sites of the city and the submission of proposals for financing projects from the structural funds that aim to upgrade our monuments and cultural routes", he added.

The President of the Larnaca ETAP, Dinos Lefkaritis, congratulated the Minister of Transport for the "various innovations he has introduced, including the decree on the free entrance to certain museums."

It is time for all stakeholders to work collectively to increase the footfall of both this Museum and the other 18 very worthy museums in the city and district of Larnaca not only by tourists but also by locals."



It is noted that the Museum is accessible for disabled people, the entrance is free of charge and the new opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 in the morning until 16:30 in the afternoon.
