The professional athlete from Slovakia found the sticks but didn't lose his temper
Boris Oravec from Slovakia is a professional hockey, ice cross and crossfit athlete who loves to test his limits and share his adventures with his thousands of followers on social media. The 31-year-old's Instagram account reveals his love for sports, as he constantly uploads videos showing him training in the gym, swimming and doing his "magic" on the ice.
There are times, however, when even a seasoned, professional athlete gets "sticks" trying something new or difficult. One such incident happened about a month ago, when Oravec attempted to swim a distance across a frozen lake in the Vysoké Tatry region. The young athlete's plan was to dive into the icy waters through a hole in the ice and exit through another one several meters away.
In the end, however, things did not go as Oravec had planned, as just before reaching the exit hole he became disoriented, leaving him unable to get out and catch his breath.
See what happened in the video below:
The video shared by many users on social media shows the athlete trying to navigate under the ice, while his team members desperately try to show him the "way out" by hitting the ice above his head.
One of them seems to be trying to break the ice to get his friend out, who meanwhile, keeping his composure, manages to find and use a rope under the water, which eventually leads him to the hole from which he dived.
This rope is an important safety measure that in this case proved to be extremely useful, perhaps even life-saving for the 31-year-old.
The clip that Oravec uploaded to his account garnered thousands of views on various platforms, with many users praising the composure shown by the athlete, in contrast to his team members who appeared to be seized by panic.
It is worth noting that swimming under ice and diving into icy waters can have tragic results when performed by people who are not athletes or experienced swimmers and do not take the required safety measures. The recent example of a man in Ukraine who was killed by jumping into a frozen river, in front of his terrified partner who was filming him, is a case in point.
