On fire due to imported positive cases - 63 more cases of the Omicron hypermetastoid mutation detected Cases are increasing day by day... more and more hospitalisations - More stringent measures are always on the table, even during the holidays with Cyprus being one step away from a four-digit number of cases

The "Omicron" mutation is testing the effectiveness of the measures and of course the strength of the health system, with experts expressing more and more concern every day.

Cyprus is a breath away from a four-digit number of daily cases, which is considered a matter of days to happen, due to the hypermetastatic "Omicron" which by the "entry" of 2022 is considered to have dominated the community.

As part of the strict control being carried out in the Republic of Cyprus, the Ministry of Health informed yesterday that after sequencing 192 samples of positive cases with collection dates from 11 December 2021 to 19 December 2021 63 positive samples with the Omicron variant were identified.

Of the 192 samples,[/B] 80 were collected at airports, 9 samples were collected from residents at the Eden Rehabilitation Centre and 103[/B][/B] samples were collected from the community. Specifically, 34 cases of the Omicron variant[/B][/B] involved samples collected at the airports, 7 from Eden and 22 from the community.

The cases, which are increasing day by day, are also ringing a "bell" to the HACCP whose action plan is in full swing to avoid problems with the number of beds, since an increase in positive cases means an increase in hospitalisations.

Since Thursday, the Minister of Health has been preparing for the possibility of new measures, perhaps during the holidays if necessary. The number of hospitalizations is known to be a determining factor for the follow-up and new decisions, which cannot be ruled out before the coming of the New Year.

As has been conveyed from the most official lips, those of the President, the possibility of a lockdown is something everyone is averse to. Scientists are evaluating the data on the basis of daily numbers, and some of them continue to put on the table tightening up some measures, such as reducing gatherings, both in and out of homes.
