"Worrying situation" due to high numbers, says OCYPY There is a plan but the stamina is not unlimited What OCYPY spokesman Haralambos Harilaou tells the Cyprus Times

The focus is on the picture in state hospitals with officials closely monitoring the epidemiological data.

The increased cases announced in the past few days, culminating in yesterday's negative record of 1925 cases, are causing concern as to whether they will translate into increased hospitalisations in the coming days.

Speaking to the Cyprus[/b] Times, OCYPY Spokesman Haralambos Harilaou said that the numbers in the hospitals currently remain stable and range between 160-170 patients. "From the data it appears that one in two are in serious or critical condition," he said. "In ICUs there are both postcovid and non-covid patients."

Currently 78 patients are being treated either in Intensive Care or ICU. "80% of the inpatients have no history of vaccination which shows that the virus is gaining ground and moving on to the unvaccinated, so we insist on calling people to go for vaccination," he stressed.

Asked about the high numbers in recent days, Harilaou said it is a worrying situation. "One cannot speak with certainty, we will have to see if it is the omicron mutation. In the next few days we will see whether the pressure in the hospitals will increase," he said.

Harilaou explained that there is a plan in place at OKYPY to deal with any increased hospitalizations. "There is a plan in case of an increase in admissions, but everyone needs to realize that the strength of the system is not unlimited," he concluded.
