The Ministry of Health announces that today, 17 December 2021:
- 1 person died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 617.
- 171 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 57 in serious condition. A proportion of 74.71% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 8 post-COVID patients who ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in ICU.
- A total of 82,410 tests have been performed to detect the disease by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test).
- 695 (positivity rate: 0.84% new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by the molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 144,205.
The current results are detailed below.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 1 person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 was:
A female, aged 62 years, who died on 17 December in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Since then, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of COVID-19 is 617, of which:
- 393 males (63.7%), and
- 224 females (36.3%).
The average age of those dying from the disease is 75.8 years.
B. Νοσηλευόμενοι:
Συνολικά, στα νοσηλευτήρια του ΟΚΥπΥ νοσηλεύονται 171 ασθενείς της νόσου COVID-19, εκ των οποίων οι 57 σε σοβαρή κατάσταση ή σε συνθήκες ΜΑΦ.
Από τους 57 ασθενείς που είναι σε σοβαρή κατάσταση, οι 20 είναι διασωληνωμένοι, ο 1 νοσηλεύεται σε Μονάδα Εντατικής Θεραπείας εκτός αναπνευστήρα και οι 36 σε Μονάδα Αυξημένης Φροντίδας.

Γ. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 82,410 diagnoses made, 10,709 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 71,701 by the antigen rapid test method, 695 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 144 cases from 1,729 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
- 40 cases out of 5,210 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 105 cases out of 3,345 samples taken through private initiative.
- 3 cases out of 321 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 292 cases from 48,178 specimens tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 111 κρούσματα από 23,523 δείγματα που εξετάστηκαν με τη μέθοδο ταχείας ανίχνευσης αντιγόνου (antigen rapid test) μέσω του προγράμματος του Υπουργείου Υγείας.
Επιπρόσθετα, διεκπεραιώθηκαν οι ακόλουθες εξετάσεις, χωρίς τον εντοπισμό κρούσματος:
- 0 κρούσματα από 103 δείγματα που λήφθηκαν στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος παραπομπών από Προσωπικούς Ιατρούς και ελέγχου ειδικών ομάδων μέσω των Ιατρείων Δημόσιας Υγείας.
- 0 κρούσματα από 1 δείγμα που λήφθηκαν στο πλαίσιο ελέγχων σε κλειστές δομές.
Αναλυτικά, οι εξετάσεις ταχείας ανίχνευσης αντιγόνου (rapid test) μέσω του προγράμματος του Υπουργείου Υγείας πραγματοποιήθηκαν σήμερα ως ακολούθως:
