The 33-year-old man who confessed to the murder of Christakis Syako in the area of Moni in Limassol last summer is in prison for 5 years. They had met for drug deals and tricked him with Himalayan salt, hit him with his car and caused his death What is mentioned in the decision of the Criminal Court
Five years in prison, the Permanent Criminal Court that met in Limassol, sent the 33-year-old man who was found guilty of the murder of Christakis Syako, 58, committed in the morning of July 5, outside a kiosk in the area of Moni in Limassol. The murder was even committed in front of the victim's 28-year-old son.
According to the facts of the case, the 33-year-old, who admitted to the charge of manslaughter in a previous trial, drove his car in such a way that constituted culpable negligence in the performance of duty, resulting in hitting the victim and causing his death, as was heard before the Court.
According to the Court's ruling, "the defendant did not cause the death of the victim by an unlawful act, but by an unlawful omission constituting culpable negligence. The defendant went to Limassol to buy drugs from the victim and his son for the sum of 180 euros. Instead of drugs, they gave him Himalayan salt. When he realised that he had been tricked, he got out of his car to get back the amount he had paid. The victim's son refused to give it to him and a fight ensued. At some point, the accused, after taking the above amount, got into his car with the intention of escaping, but the victim and his son prevented him from doing so. The latter at some point threw an iron seat into the cabin of the accused's car. The victim persistently pulled the door of the vehicle to keep it open."

Furthermore, as stated in the Court's decision, "when he managed to close the door, he noticed the victim moving towards the front of his car, but he did not know exactly where he was since it was dark and the car's lights were off. The defendant failed to check the road and where the victim was, hoping that he would have time to escape. He thus started his vehicle, depressing the gasoline pedal to full throttle, striking the victim and causing his death."
The Court referred to the seriousness of the offense. In calculating the sentence, it took into account, among other factors, the defendant's immediate admission, his clean criminal record, his cooperation with the police authorities, his personal and family circumstances, as well as the pressure that led him to his negligent behaviour, which can be reduced to culpable negligence, as stated in the judgment of the Court of Cassation.
