3.5 years in jail for 75-year-old man for drugs found in luggage at Larnaca Airport He had returned from Britain to Cyprus last August

A three-and-a-half-year jail sentence was handed down today to a 75-year-old man by the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court, following a case of possession of drugs for the purpose of supplying them to another person.

The 75-year-old man was found in possession of more than two kilos of cannabis by members of the Drug Enforcement Agency - YKAN last August.


The quantity of cannabis was found in the luggage of the 75-year-old, who had arrived at Larnaca Airport and was checked by members of the YCAN in cooperation with officials of the Customs Department. The 75-year-old arrived at the airport on a flight from a European country shortly before 1.00 midnight on 27 August.

During the check in the 75-year-old's luggage, two packages containing a total of two kilograms and 285 grams of cannabis were detected. At the same time, members of the YKAN proceeded to seize the drugs and arrest the 75-year-old for offences of first degree.

The case had been investigated by the YKAN's Larnaca Unit.
