The 29-year-old man arrested for the quantity of cocaine hidden in motorcycle parts
The Larnaca District Court today issued an eight-day detention order against a man aged 29, who was arrested yesterday for facilitating police investigations in connection with a case of cocaine, weighing 265 grams, which was found hidden inside motorcycle parts shipped to Cyprus.
A statement from the Police Headquarters Communication Office said that "the 29-year-old man was arrested on a court warrant, following evidence obtained after examinations by the YKAN, after the detection and seizure of the quantity of cocaine".
It is added that "after evaluating information about the arrival of a package in Cyprus, which may have contained drugs, members of the Police, in cooperation with members of the Customs Department, located and inspected this package, following an investigation at the offices of a courier company in Larnaca."
According to the Police "during an investigation it was found that inside the package there were three motorcycle carburetors with built-in air filters. Inside each filter, a quantity of white solid substance, weighing approximately 265 grams in total, was found and seized, which appears to be cocaine."
Further police investigations "secured evidence against a 29-year-old man, a resident of Nicosia, and a court warrant was issued against him, under which he was arrested and detained to facilitate investigations."
The Larnaca District Branch of the YKAN is investigating a case of illegal importation, illegal supply, illegal possession, and illegal possession of drugs for the purpose of supply to another person.
