[B-2]28th Pancyprian PEO Congress calls on workers to be ready to fight for regulations[B-3]
[B-4]To be vigilant and ready to fight for regulations that will strengthen collective bargaining and collective agreements, for regulations that will be in the overall benefit of all workers, PEO calls on workers through the Declaration of its 28th Pancyprian Congress, which was held on 9 and 10 December 2021, in Nicosia.[B-5][B-6]"We have great challenges ahead of us in the next period of time", says the Congress in its Declaration, adding that "it is obvious that once again, an attempt will be made by a large part of the employers and those who join them and support them, to put the consequences of this crisis on the shoulders of the workers and the vulnerable groups of the population".[B-7][B-8] It also states that "united and united, we are called upon in the coming period to fight for work with rights and dignity for all workers, for a fairer distribution of the wealth produced for the benefit of the many in order to reduce social and economic inequalities".[B-9][B-10] In its Declaration, the PUC Congress calls on workers "to fight the battle so that the debate that has begun on the minimum wage leads to the comprehensive re-regulation of work".[B-11][B-12]To lead to the introduction of regulations by the state that guarantee and ensure, as the Federation states, "that the minimum wages agreed through sectoral collective bargaining are valid and applicable to all workers in the sector and that for those workers not covered by collective agreements, minimum wages and basic benefits are agreed through tripartite dialogue."[B-13][B-14] Furthermore, it states that "we have many other issues ahead of us aimed at improving the quality of life of workers, young people, women, vulnerable groups of the population", such as, inter alia, the full reintroduction of the ATA and its universal application, the progressive reform of the social security system by abolishing the 12% penalty and increasing pensions so as to provide a decent living for pensioners, the creation of a modern welfare state providing substantial support for working women, the creation of a new social security system, and the establishment of a new social security system for women and men.
[B-18]Addressing Cypriot workers, Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Armenians, Maronites and Latins, the PEO Congress calls on them "to intensify the common struggle against division, for the liberation and reunification of our land" and adds that "the commitment to the Bicommunal Bi-zonal Federation solution and the resumption of talks from where they left off in Crans Montana is the only way out to break the prolonged and dangerous deadlock on the Cyprus problem".[B-19][B-20][B-20] The PEP assures that it will continue and upgrade cooperation and joint action with the progressive Turkish Cypriot trade unions.[B-21][B-22]"We will continue the struggle against nationalism and the cultivation of a climate of intolerance, highlighting the positive benefits for the working people of our country of the resolution of the Cyprus problem and the reunification of our country and at the same time the dangers of the perpetuation and perpetuation of partition and the status quo", it adds.[B-23][B-24][B-23][B-24] Finally, in its Declaration, the PUC Congress asserts that "together with the world progressive, class-oriented trade union movement, it will continue the struggle against imperialist interventions, for world peace, for respect for human rights, for protection of the environment, for a world free of poverty and discrimination."[B-25][B-26][B-26][B-25][B-26] Source: CNA[B-27][B-27]
