The Moroccan coast guard rescued 256 migrants in operations carried out over the last three 24 hours in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, the country's official news agency (MAP) reported today.
Among those rescued were 41 women and 5 children, with the majority coming from sub-Saharan African countries. They were in danger due to sea turbulence, having boarded makeshift inflatable boats. Members of the coastguard provided first aid to those in need, according to the same source.
Morocco is a transit country for thousands of migrants, mainly from sub-Saharan Africa, who are trying to reach Europe in search of a better future.
