197 traffic offences were reported on 23-26 December in Paphos
A total of 197 traffic offences were reported during targeted checks carried out from 23- 26 December on the main and secondary roads of Paphos by traffic patrols.
According to Pafos Assistant Police Director, Michael Ioannou, the Pafos Police in an effort to prevent road traffic collisions and property offences such as burglary and theft, carried out patrols and static checks. A total of 197 complaints were made from 06:00 in the morning of 23 December 2021 to 07:00 in the morning of 26 December 2021.
Of the 197 complaints, Mr. Ioannou, 23 involved driving under the influence of alcohol, 4 complaints for driving without a seat belt, 2 complaints for driving under the influence of drugs, 53 complaints for exceeding the speed limit, 4 complaints for driving a vehicle with the use of a mobile phone. Also one complaint for driving without a driver's license, 9 complaints for driving a car without insurance and 101 other complaints for minor offences.
In the context of this campaign 2 vehicles were also seized.
According to Mr. Ioannou regarding the situation of road collisions there were a total of nine road collisions of which 6 involved only property damage and 3 involved minor injuries to four drivers and passengers.

Also, a case of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, and driving without safety is being investigated by the Paphos Traffic Police in cooperation with the YKAN ( Paphos Police Station), against a 35-year-old man.
According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Michael Ioannou, members of the "Z Team" while they were on Agapinoros Street in Paphos intercepted a car for control.
From the check carried out on the driver it was established that he was a 35 year old resident of Paphos and from further examinations carried out on the documents of the above vehicle it was established that the above was not in possession of a safety certificate.
Also in a preliminary examination for the detection of drugs, it was found that he had drugs in his saliva.
He then gave an additional saliva sample which, after being sealed, will be sent to the State General Laboratory for laboratory analysis.
A search of his vehicle followed, but nothing illegal was found. The Pafos Traffic Police in cooperation with the YKAN (Pafos Police Station) are investigating the case.
In addition, a case of driving under the influence of drugs, refusal to provide a drug test sample, disobeying the instructions of a policeman in uniform is being investigated by the Pafos Police against a 23-year-old man.
According to Pafos Assistant Police Director Michael Ioannou, at 14:00 yesterday, a member of the "Z" team of the Pafos Traffic Police while on Makarios Avenue in Geroskipou stopped a vehicle for control.
A check revealed that the driver is 23 years old, a resident of Pafos. When asked to provide a sample for drug testing, he refused to do so.
He was then instructed to remain at the scene in order to transfer the vehicle to the Paphos Traffic Police but he left.
His vehicle was taken to Paphos Traffic Police who are investigating the case.
Meanwhile, Paphos Police are investigating a case of speeding, failure to comply with a uniformed police officer's signal against a 37-year-old man.
According to Pafos Assistant Police Director Michael Ioannou yesterday at 21:00, while members of the Pafos Traffic Police were on a speed check on Republic Avenue in Paphos, they found through a mobile speedometer that a car was being driven on the aforementioned Avenue in the direction of Europa Avenue at a speed of 77 kilometres instead of 50 kilometres which is the permitted limit. A member of the Paphos Traffic Police signaled the driver of the vehicle to stop, but he failed to comply with the officer's signal and continued driving towards the Paphos Stadium roundabout.
The driver of the above car, according to the Police, was aware of the signal, but nevertheless did not stop. The driver is described as a young male. From tests conducted from the registration number of the vehicle, the owner appears to be a 37-year-old man who resides in Limassol.
Subsequent tests were conducted in Limassol, however it was found that the above person no longer resides at the address and tests are being conducted to locate him for information on the offences he is alleged to have committed.
The case is being investigated by Paphos Traffic Police.
In addition, Pafos Assistant Police Director Michalis Ioannou noted that police checks will continue both on the city's road network, on the motorway and on the secondary road network alongside the motorway, ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays in an effort by the police to prevent road collisions and burglaries and thefts.
He also appealed to everyone to observe the traffic code to avoid not only road traffic collisions but also complaints which are not an end in themselves.Two persons aged 35 and 23 were driving their vehicles under the influence of drugs in Paphos.
