On-site visits

On-site visits[/QUOTE][C] visits to communities in the Paphos District were carried out by technical engineers of the District Administration on the instructions of the Minister of Interior, following the earthquake that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, without any serious material damage being recorded, according to Paphos Prefect Mary Lambrou.

In a statement to the Cyprus News Agency, Ms. Lamprou said that a "thorough inspection was carried out, both through telephone communications between the administrative officials of the Provincial Administration and each community leader in the communities of Paphos" and through on-site visits, on the instructions of the Minister of Interior, by technical engineers of the Provincial Administration "but nothing serious has been found, except for two dilapidated houses".

One of the two dilapidated houses, Lamprou said, is located in Pano Arodes and the other in Goudi, were abandoned and their condition has deteriorated with collapse of part of the buildings towards the side of the road.

Already the two houses are being cleaned and all necessary protective measures are being taken, she continued. Lambrou also said that in two other cases small cracks have been reported in residences, without being anything serious, noting that the problems were pre-existing.

Regarding the rainfall, Lambrou noted that due to the heavy rainfall eight crews were mobilized with janitors and workers from the Provincial Administration.

Furthermore, she continued, checks were made for minor landslides on roads under the jurisdiction of the Provincial Administration because, as she explained, many roads fall under the jurisdiction of Public Works and where there have been landslides are being cleaned.

Even some bridges on rivers have been checked to make sure that the flow of water is unhindered, he concluded.

Moreover, Christos Loukaidis, owner of a poultry farm with egg-producing chickens in Kallepia, told the Cyprus News Agency that 1,586 chickens he keeps, due to the fear caused by the early morning earthquake, trampled on each other and died, with most of them being taken to the incinerator, and he said the damage was in the thousands of euros.
