On the basis of the coordinates given, Charalambous said, an police and firefighters and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene, where the vehicle was located and its driver was found dead.

Fire fighters removed the young mans body from the wreckage of the overturned vehicle and he was was taken to Limassol hospital where his death was officially pronounced.

According to Charalambous, the vehicle hit a guardrail above the cliff, which it crashed through, and dropped about 50 meters to the bottom.

The deceased had not been wearing a seat belt and initial evidence showed no sign of attempts to brake, police said.

The circumstances of the crash are under ongoing investigation.
