Turkey is to send a total of 4,000 food parcels to the north to be distributed to those in need during the month of Ramadan.

The move was announced by Turkey’s foundations directorate, which is affiliated with the country’s culture ministry, with 16,000 packages also set to be sent to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, and North Macedonia.

Turkey’s foundations directorate said the packages had been dispatched on Wednesday and were aimed at “families in need living in the lands where our ancestors set foot.

The packages contain flour, tomato paste, sunflower oil, beans, pasta, red lentils, noodles, rice, and tahini halva, as well as other long-lasting foods such as raisins and dates.

Turkey’s foundations directorate general manager Sinan Aksu said “I hope [THE AID] reaches our brothers and sisters in need without any trouble. We will continue to lend a helping hand to all oppressed areas as much as we can.”

“Our foundations are a bridge between our past and our present, a source of charity and a reason for prayer which has continued without interruption for centuries,” he said.

He added that his directorate “does not consider people’s religion, language, race, or ideology when providing aid.

The month of Ramadan is set to begin on the evening of March 10,
