Power outages were observed on Monday morning in many areas of Cyprus, due to the bad weather and strong winds, Electricity Authority (EAC) Spokeswoman Christina Papadopoulou said.
She added that these are mainly localised outages that affected a few homes.
According to Papadopoulou, EAC crews undertook to remove or prune tree branches that affected the operation of the network, so that connections could be restored as soon as possible.
Asked by the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) whether there are regular operations to remove tree branches from areas where there are facilities of the EAC network, Papadopoulou said that annual operations are carried out, both pruning and cleaning of dry grass from the base of the EACs pillars, primarily in the forest areas to protect them.
Most of the emergency power outages due to bad weather occurred on Monday morning, the EAC said.
Around 7.30 am outages occurred in Aglandjia, Ayios Antonios, Kaimakli, Panayia in the Nicosia municipality, and in Akaki there was an outage at 2.25 am, while around 8.00am power outages also occurred in Yermasoyia, Ayios Georgios Havouzas, Mesa Geitonia, and Monati in the Limassol district, as well as in the community of Simou in Paphos.
There are also ongoing EAC works, Papadopoulou said, adding that on Monday there will be scheduled works in some areas of Nicosia, Limassol, and Larnaca.
She said that some pruning activities are conducted in network areas, without cutting the power.
Papadopoulou called on the local authorities to help in pruning in areas within their jurisdiction, as the EAC teams cannot cover all the needs.
