A 52-year-old man, who owns a water sports outlet in Protaras, will be held in custody until his sentencing, the Famagusta District Court decided on Tuesday, in the case brought against the man, whose negligence injured a tourist in 2017.

According to the case, a then 25-year-old Cypriot woman and permanent resident of Scotland and her cousin, were injured by one of the 52-year-old’s speedboats at Konnos beach in Protaras, while on holiday in August 2017.

The 25-year-old was seriously injured when the speed boat hit her and her cousin, who was only lightly injured.

A case was brought against the 52-year-old water sports company owner, who rented out the boat that hit the two women.

He faces the charges of abandoning the scene of an accident and of violating the law on speed boat rentals.

On Tuesday, the court decided for the man to be held in custody until his sentencing, which could include multi-year prison time.
