The message that women have non-negotiable rights to equality and equal opportunities, namely equal pay, vocational training and participation in decision-making centres, which should be guaranteed, is sent by the Equality and Equal Treatment Department (TISIM) of the ICFTU on the occasion of International Women's Day.
The declaration speaks of "depressing" equality statistics in Cyprus, as the pay gap against women is 11%, the pension gap is 39% and occupational segregation is 24.4%. Cyprus ranks 21st among the 27 in the European Union in gender equality indicators with extremely low performance in the areas of women's participation in decision-making and employment, it added.
