Cyprus fully understands the plight of Ukraine and its people, being itself a victim of foreign invasion and the continued occupation of its territories and under the constant threat of Turkey, said the President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades, in his intervention during yesterday's dinner of the leaders of the EU Member States, which took place in the framework of the Informal Meeting of the European Council in Versailles.
He further stressed that it is crucial for the international actor to work to secure, as soon as possible, a ceasefire agreement that will end the bloodshed and pave the way for negotiations, and noted the fact that Turkey, an EU candidate country, refuses to align itself with the sanctions against Russia.
