The central role of tourism in promoting the Blue Economy was highlighted in a World Tourism Organization (WTO) discussion at the "One Ocean" Summit, hosted by the French Presidency last week, the WTO said in a statement.
In a discussion on "Tourism in the Blue Economy", co-organised with the United Nations Environment Programme and France, high-level delegates highlighted how the implementation of the blue economy can combat threats to climate change, plastic pollution and overexploitation of resources. At the same time, the panel with representatives from Colombia, Kenya, Seychelles and Palau made clear how a stronger commitment to sustainability can bring more competitive and inclusive tourism activities.
