European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni warned today that Russia's actions in Ukraine will "strongly" increase the uncertainty surrounding the economic situation in Europe.

"The violation of international law through Russia's recognition of two regions that seceded from Ukraine will strongly increase this uncertainty," the Commissioner said in a conference call speech.

On 10 February, the Commission had slightly revised downwards its growth forecasts for Europe for 2022 and upwards its forecasts for 2023.
