The Asprokremmos sluice overflowed in the early hours of the morning, according to Haris Cassioulis, District Engineer of the Paphos Water Development Department.
In a statement to CNA, Mr. Kasioulis said that in the early hours of Wednesday morning the normal overflow of the Asprokremmos dam, which he said is the second largest artificial lake in Cyprus with a capacity of 52.375 million cubic meters of water, began. This, he said, is a progressive phenomenon which was finalised in the morning hours, adding that it started with the wave which was the precursor of the overflow and in the morning hours the overflow started. Regarding the exact measurements, he said that these would be taken a little later.
The water collected by the Asprokmou dam, he added. Casioulis comes from the Xeros River while the overflow has been done so far
