Marco Odermat won his first Olympic gold medal as he won the giant slalom at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
The 24-year-old Swiss champion confirmed his pre-race favourite title as he was the fastest on the first run and held off an impressive performance from Slovenia's Jean Kranjets, who finished 8th to win the silver medal. French world champion Mathieu Febre took the third place on the podium, while his compatriot Alexis Pinturaud, one of the top champions of the event, was limited to fifth place.
