The Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 concluded with another big surprise, as Equatorial Guinea eliminated Mali 6-5 on penalties (0-0 in regulation and extra time) and qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition, where they will face Senegal of Sadio Mane and Pape Abu Sissé.
Led by 20-year-old Alaves goalkeeper Jesus Ovono, who made saves in both regulation time and half-time extra time, Equatorial Guinea withstood the pressure from Mali, kept zero at the back and took the match to penalties, where thanks to the composure of their players from the whitewash and two saves by Ovono, they qualified for the last eight.
