Germany's Council of Ministers on Wednesday approved an increase in the minimum wage to 12 euros an hour, a development that is a campaign commitment of Chancellor Olaf Scholz's Social Democrats.
"Many citizens of our country work a lot but earn little - this must change," said Scholz, announcing the decision via his personal Twitter account.
