Formula One said on Friday 25 February that there would be no race in Russia this season, stating that this was "impossible" following the country's invasion of neighbouring Ukraine.

As reported by Reuters, the governing body said in a statement that "on Thursday evening Formula One, the World Motor Sport Federation and the teams discussed the position of our sport and the conclusion is that it is impossible to hold the Russian grand prix in the current circumstances," with team drivers backing the decision.

The Russian race had been held continuously at the Sochi Olympic Park since 2014 and was due to move to a new track outside St Petersburg next year.
