[ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE ACADEMY OF INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS, THE IMAGE WAS ILLEGALLY EXPORTED BY A ROYAL BRITISH AIR FORCE PILOT WHO WAS SERVING IN CYPRUS IN 1974 DURING THE TURKISH INVASION.
"The son of the late officer saw fit to return the icon to its place of origin," it said.
